Patrick of Digital Ferret Fights Back for all Home Owners!!!

Patrick has let me show my work at Digital Ferret a few times, and I consider the man a pal and a great guy to do business with. So when I heard about this, I couldn't be happier:

"It's not clear how this story will turn out, but right now Patrick Rodgers is living a pay-back fantasy probably shared by millions of struggling U.S. homeowners.

Frustrated by a dispute with Wells Fargo Home Mortgage and by his inability to get answers to questions, the West Philadelphia homeowner took the mortgage company to court last fall.

When Wells Fargo still didn't respond, Rodgers got a $1,000 default judgment against it for failing to answer his formal questions, as required by a federal law called the Real Estate Settlement Procedures Act.

And when the mortgage company didn't pay - does something sound familiar? - Rodgers turned to Philadelphia's sheriff."

MONSTERS (In My Head): The Disturbing Illustrations of Larry West

The Monsters are no longer confined to under your bed!

Philadelphia Artist/Native Larry West returns to the Philadelphia Art Scene with his next art show, "Monsters (In My Head)". After 6 years of toil, agony, and fear, Philadelphia Artist Larry West unveils the monsters that reside in his head! An exhibit in the macabre and disturbed pieces of art that he constantly refers to as "The art of a madman", the show will show 10 of the most raw, imaginative, and heartfelt pieces of the illustrators life.

The artwork deals with a lot of lost that the artist has gone through. "I call them the monsters in my head because, well, that's what they are. But in a lot of ways, they're the ones we all see. Pain, misery, loss, anger, anxiety... they all take different forms. Some are scarier than others, but all of them are always clawing away at us at one time or another."

This marks Larry West's second art show, as well as his second at Digital Ferret. Larry's art will be shown in conjunction with live performances by Worms of the Earth, Vicious Alliance, and DJ Stalagmike.

The opening reception will be held September 24th at 7PM - 10pm, and the show will run until October 20th. Prints of all the pieces will be available for purchase.

FEAR FACTORY - June 6th - Meet and Greet and Concert!!!

Fear Factory. The name alone commands a respect very few metal bands have. Having been one of the biggest driving forces of heavy metal during the 90's, and still keeping the flame strong during the better part of the last 10 years, the band went on "hiatus" in 2006.

This year, they came back in a BIG way.

Enlisting the help of Strapping Young Lad's rhythm section, the newly-reformed Fear Factory will be playing The Trocadero on June 6th with the help of Prong. This comes with the release of their new album "Mechanize".

PAUL ROMANO ART SHOW!!

I am pleased to say that Paul Romano will be doing this upcoming 4th Friday at Digital Ferret Records!

Who is Paul Romano, you ask? If the name doesn't ring a bell, you more than likely have seen his work! This flyer may, very well, ring some bells. Paul Romano has done all the album covers for metal band Mastodon, and has also done work for Trivium.

I knew he lived in Philadelphia, and it will be an honor to finally get to meet him! I'm really looking forward to this, and if you can, I recommend coming out! It should be a good time!

Just wanted to post a reminder that my show is in a little more than 3 weeks! Mark your calenders!

Digital Ferret: As Dark As It Gets

I headed down today to Digital Ferret earlier today to do my review.

The first great thing about this store is that it does something I've never seen any store do before; describe the bands it sells. Granted, right now it's limited to Industrial Music (99% of the store), but it is still incredibly nice! I've seen bands I wanted to get into but know nothing about. The little reviews are great as they have descriptions about the musical output of a band. For example, I wanted to get into KMFDM but had no idea what they sounded like. So after reading a little card, it basically stated that they fused metal with industrial music, their impact, etc... I now own about most of all their CD's (save ADIOS, which I sold. It was bad).

Now, onto the new metal section! Their new metal section is composed on 99% black metal, 1% a few other discs. While I was there, someone else was buying about 15% of their stock. I'm not kidding. "Well, the price is right!" How true it is! If it's "kvlt", it's there for only $9.97!


The space is huge, incredibly clean, and the kind and friendly staff was a pleasure to be with! They constantly have art up, rotating periodically. The t-shirt selection is good, and the magazines and books cater to the goth and metal audience perfectly.

My good friend and I were discussing the possibility of the metal section in the store growing. "As time goes on, their metal selection may improve," he said. "Well, " I replied, "how many industrial music stores are there in this country?" The fact is, there isn't a lot. This store is a treasure for the industrial and goth community, not only in Philly, but also for the suburbs and such. It would be a shame to basically have it become 50% industrial 50% Metal.

At the same time, I wouldn't mind metal just being given a small little alcove at this great place. The metal section, since it is still new, is confined to only a white rack and a small little box next to the counter, but expanding it to include stuff like thrash, alternative, and grindcore.

Digital Ferret is just a great store, and it's worth checking out!

Metal Heads of Philly, Rejoice! We Have a New Place to Go!

DIGITAL FERRET NOW SELLS METAL!!!!!!

In no way am I about to post the following because I dated a very cute clerk who works there in the past, nor because I'm trying to suck up and get a 4th Friday show this month to show my work and make some cash and some headlines.

The fact is, I received a message through MySpace from Dean of Digital Ferret saying they are now stocking metal. No, you didn't misread that; Digital Ferret is now selling METAL! Which is great, because the new location (which is just HUGE!) was basically dying for something a little more to fill the space.

Now, no press release from anyone other than me goes on without me making my point of view known. I can already hear the industrial-goth community, the folks who head down to Goth Night at nightspot Shampoo every Wednesday and Dracula's Ball crying out that their haven, their home away from the metal heads who would (albeit idiotically) look at them weird will now have it encroached by part of the musical world they oppose. To them, I simply say "BAH!"

When I first came to this store in 2004 and kept going to 2007, it was for 2 reasons; The view and the fact that they still had a great shop with stuff you couldn't find anywhere else! They had a lot of stuff, namely shirts and magazines, that no one else had. The fact that they are now going to fill in the mighty big shoes that Relapse Records left simply fills my heart with joy.

To my fellow metal heads who may be a bit nervous of skeptical of the move, know this; I wasn't a fan of KMFDM until I started going there, and I'm slowly discovering a division of the metal musical landscape that was only hinted and scratched at in the mid to late 90's and abandoned far too soon.

This store rocks, and tomorrow I will be making a "surprise" visit to make sure the store is up to stuff and write a review. Expect pictures.
