The most recent company? Lifestyle Condoms.
Yes, Lifestyle Condoms have approached a 15-year-old to become the spokesperson for their company and, according to her camp, she will refuse to do it. While many people may, at least at first, agree that she shouldn't do it (she states that she believes in abstinence, which is cool, I'm the same way), but the reality is that she could actually do a lot of good.
Back in 2004, I learned that the Chlamydia rate in high school girls in Philadelphia was incredibly high. Let's not kid ourselves here; teenagers do have sex. I didn't, but quite a few folks did. In fact, a quote from Lifestyle Condoms says exactly what I could go on and on about:
With recent reports showing that one out of four teenage girls has an STD (Sexually Transmitted Disease) and the high level of teenage pregnancy, we believe that Miley is both influential and relatable to this afflicted set - and is the obvious choice to get the message of safe sex out to teens across America."
Which is actually true. If Miley was able to go out and say, "Hey, abstain from sex until marriage, but if you can't, be safe and use a condom." Saying that a message like this "confuses kids" is just stupid and is underminding basic human intellagence. Seriously, think about it; If you were 20 and heard that, you would understand what that meant; don't fuck, but if you do, use a condom. No one is telling you to go out and have sex!
If Miley did take the offer, I think we would start seeing a lot of people acting smarter about their sexual decisions in their teens.
